With the feast of Epiphany just days away, the Church is about to enter a season of revelation. We stood around the manger, saw Christ's birth, and now leave to see where he calls us in the world. The next "Many Voices, One Song" sing-along date is this Sunday, January 8. Please join us as Presbyterians glorify the Triune God. We will sing "Glory to God, Whose Goodness Shines on Me". It is #6 in the current Hymnal Sampler. The next sing-along will be in March.
This project has unified congregations of varying sizes, locations, and worship traditions. Services with 5 people have sung boldly with others across the country. Organs, guitars, projectors, and bulletins facilitated the same songs in many different styles and places. Just in case you needed encouragement to join the song, read this story from First Presbyterian Church in Beacon, NY:
On Saturday, October 29th, the Hudson River Valley experienced a freak snow storm. With leaves still on the trees, the weight of the snow broke many branches. Power was out through most of the area. I had cancelled worship two months before as Hurricane Irene came through the neighborhood. Even though a state of emergency was declared in Dutchess County, I could not bring myself to cancel worship for the good folks of First Presbyterian Church of Beacon, NY. So, on Reformation Sunday, a handful of us gathered to worship. As you can see from the video, we were without heat and electric. But, the Holy Spirit was present. I'm sorry that the quality of the video is lacking, but it gives a sense of the experience (complete with the three witches that prepared our Halloween-themed coffee hour).
"... our helper He amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing..." No heat, no power, and only a few courageous worshippers! Here is FPC Beacon, NY singing "A Mighty Fortress".
